Even though When a Princess Proposes by Kerrelyn Sparks doesn’t come out until tomorrow (4/26), I’m going to post my review now so you can start reading the rest of the series in preparation! Aerthlan’s five Embraced queens have reigned for twenty years, in peace secured by the power of their magic. But now a new and insidious threat has appeared, to test a new generation. Heroic, but low born, eagle-shifter Quentin’s infatuation with Princess Eviana (who has her own magic gift of her own) is as inappropriate as it is unshakable. He must keep away from her, for his own sake. But after a series of suspicious deaths, and the princess’s narrow escape from kidnapping, Quentin knows that only together can they expose the danger stalking Aerthlan’s Embraced. On foot, in disguise, they’ll need trust and quick wits to uncover the vicious conspiracy closing around them. But finding the truth might break down their own defenses as well. I was really interested in this 20 years later story featuring Leo and Luciana’s daughter, Evianna, and Quentin, who we met as a nine year old boy in The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea. This book was just as action-packed as the rest of the series and it only helped enhance the romance of the story too! While this book could work as a standalone, I highly recommend reading at least The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea just so there’s a better understanding of Quentin’s childhood and how the events in that book parallel the ones in this one. I really hope there’s another book planned in the world of the Embraced because I’m curious about the futures of a few other characters. But overall, this is a great series to read if you want a quick, adventurous, and flirty read! *I received an ARC from Kensington Books in exchange for my honest opinion.
