Chloe Liese has done it again! Best known for her Tough Love Series, Liese weaves together the same lovable tropes from her past stories into her newest novel, Only When It’s Us. Readers get to meet a whole new cast of characters in this first book in The Bergman Brothers series, which follows a delicious frenemies-to-lovers couple trying to open up to one another amidst times of change. When “silent, surly flannel-wearing mountain man” Ryder Bergman is forced to work on a group project with soccer star, Willa Sutter (a girl with “a temper that makes the devil seem friendly”), things do not get off to a good start. Silent death glares and ignoring each other leads to a prank war ensuing between the two. However, the prank war develops into a friendship and maybe something more? This new adult sports romance between a women’s soccer star and her surly lumbersexual classmate, complete with a matchmaking professor, juvenile pranks, and a smoking slow burn will leave you wanting more. This novel might be one of my favorites of Chloe Liese stories! Not only are Ryder and Willa both stubborn beyond belief, but both have soft sides that only really come out with the people they trust. The way that Ryder and Willa go through their hardships together is so beautiful to read about! The banter, pranks, and overall hatred that the two of them have for each other in the beginning will satisfy your enemies-to-lovers craving and have you hooked on every chapter. I really liked the way that Willa and Ryder communicate and how it metaphorically relates to their relationship. Willa can hear, but can’t understand why Ryder would like her; Ryder can’t hear but listens to Willa in a way that no one else has. However, both overcome their flaws and faults to come together and trust each other in a way they’ve never known before. Only When It’s Us is such a fun story and if you love the enemies-to-lovers trope then this is a must read!! Fans of Liese’s Tough Love Series will fall in love with her writing all over again and really enjoy Willa and Ryder’s story! While this is a great stand-alone novel, I cannot wait for the next installment of the series and see what shenanigans the Bergman Brothers get up to next. *I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
